JSW Steel Earth Dam

JSW Steel plant built an earth dam to develop a reservoir for the steel plant without affecting the water supply to the citizens. The reservoir was filled with water through a 20 km water pipeline. The reservoirs with 0.3 TMC capacity had hills on one side, and on the other side, a 30 m high earth dam was built.

Encardio-rite was awarded the sub-contract for the supply and the installation of safety monitoring instrumentation for the project. The instrumentation included:

Piezometers - foundation and embankment In-place inclinometer to monitor lateral movement Earth pressure cells Online monitoring was done using advanced dataloggers and a web-based data management system. The online data was available online through our web-based data management system to the Contractor, Client as well as Consultant on their desktops, laptops, and mobiles. The database management software has the provision to give alarms by SMS/email in case any data crosses the pre-set review and alert levels. The near-real-time data helped in the smooth and cost-effective progress of construction works.
